ABOUT US

SMART Recovery Global Ltd (SRG) is globally focused non-profit organisation registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission based in Australia. SRG develops, maintains and distributes digital solutions that make SMART Recovery available and accessible to people of every culture and place.

SMART Recovery is a science-based program that helps individuals overcome a range of addictive behaviours including drinking, smoking, drug use, and gambling. Program participants develop the skills and mindset needed to achieve and maintain lasting change. Participants attend free weekly meetings which are delivered online and face-to-face by trained facilitators in 35 countries.

SRG’s sole member is SMART Recovery International, the global non-profit organisation dedicated to growing SMART Recovery around the world and SRG is tasked with developing, maintaining and distributing the digital solutions for the SMART Recovery network to increase availability and accessibility worldwide.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking experienced board members to join our Board of Directors. In this important role you’ll play a key part in shaping the future of a young global not-for-profit.

OPEN POSITIONS

We are seeking to fill the roles of Chair, Secretary and general board members.

board term and commitment

Meetings are held every two months. Due to the global nature of our organisation, these may be held outside of standard business hours. Additional time may be required for committee work or special events.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic guidance and oversight to support the achievement of SRG's mission and objectives.
  • Actively contribute to the development and implementation of organisational strategies and policies.
  • Utilise expertise in fundraising and grant writing to support the financial sustainability of the organisation.
  • Leverage networks to advocate for, and benefit the growth of, SMART Recovery and its participants, facilitators and affiliates.
  • Provide financial oversight and ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Engage with fellow board members, staff, and stakeholders to foster a culture of inclusivity and collaboration within the organisation.

candidate requirements

Essential

  • Strong commitment to the values and mission of SMART Recovery.
  • Demonstrated expertise and experience in at least three of the specified areas: Technology, Financial Management, Fundraising, Strategic Planning, Digital Transformation, Communications and Marketing, Grant Writing, Legal Knowledge, Cybersecurity, Risk Management and Compliance, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Desirable

  • Previous experience within the not-for-profit sector or social enterprise.
  • Previous experience as a Board Director or in senior executive roles.
  • Qualifications from the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) or overseas equivalent.
