SMART (Self-Management and Recovery Training) Australia enables the delivery of SMART Recovery mutual aid meetings to support people with addictive behaviours across Australia.

SMART Recovery has a presence in over 23 countries. SMART Recovery mutual aid meetings are delivered by SMART Recovery Australia, volunteers and partner organisations (government and non-government). Weekly SMART Recovery meetings are free and guided by a trained facilitator, some of which are peers (people with lived experience). At meetings, people help each other and use SMART tools and techniques to gain independence from their addictive behaviours of concern.

THE PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The team at SMART are looking for an experienced Finance / Payroll Officer to join our finance team part-time (2 days per week) as we continue to grow and support Australians’ in Recovery.

Working closely with the Finance Manager, and others across the SMART organisation, this role will be key in managing the payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable functions and supporting the month end and grant management reporting.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Your role as a Finance / Payroll Officer will include the following key responsibilities:

  • Management and processing of all aspects of the fortnightly payroll, including the leave provisions, superannuation payments and the implementation of a timesheet system in early 2024;
  • Processing accounts payable invoices and the management of our Weel (Virtual Corporate Credit Card) platform;
  • Reconciliation of bank accounts and Credit Cards in Xero;
  • Management of the Accounts Receivable ledger and raising invoices where required;
  • Support the accurate and timely presentation of the Monthly Management Accounts - including the preparation of journals, balance sheet reconciliations and the review of transaction allocations;
  • Supporting the financial management of Grants, including the correct allocation of expenditure and their subsequent Grant acquittals;
  • Lodgement of local, state and federal government tax related reports (including IAS and BAS, payroll tax);
  • Support with year-end process and the Audit;
  • Support with preparation of the budgets and cash flow forecasts;
  • Collaborate with the other department managers to support their objectives with the provision of key finance related information; and
  • Assistance in the development and implementation of process improvement initiatives and other projects as required.

WORK AND SKILLS EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years work experience in a similar role;
  • Strong experience in payroll (including salary packaging) essential;
  • Proficient in Xero is a must;
  • Experience in Non for Profit, highly desirable;
  • Proven financial administration experience in debtor’s management and month end process;
  • Demonstrated experience in assisting with grant submissions and acquittals; and
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous process improvement.

  • Strong people management skills, with excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills;
  • Self-motivated with the ability to prioritise to meet both regular and unexpected workflow demands and strict deadlines;
  • Proven ability to work with minimum supervision and exercise initiative, tact, discretion, and good judgement;
  • A positive and cooperative attitude; and
  • Flexible approach to working.
