The Jobs Victoria Advocates Program aims to:
We are seeking to recruit a passionate Jobs Advocate to work in the local community to support and assist Victorian jobseekers, so they know where they can go to find the information, advice and support they need to move into sustainable work.
The role is defined by the partnership agreement with the Brotherhood of St Laurence and funded through Jobs Victoria. The Jobs Advocate will play an important face-to-face navigation role in local communities across the Cities of Greater Dandenong and Casey, work in collaboration with the community development team at SLAC and receive the support and professional development from the Jobs Advocates Regional Facilitator employed by the Brotherhood of St Laurence.
The ideal candidate will advocate effectively on behalf of jobseekers to ensure they are connected with services that can help them prepare and secure work.
Relevant experience: Previous community engagement experience and/or knowledge of best practice community engagement principles and practice
High level of interpersonal skills: Demonstrated ability to understand and identify a range of client needs using a client-centred approach; capacity to deal sensitively and intelligently with difficult issues
Strong communication skills: Demonstrated experience engaging and communicating with groups of people, tailoring communication to suit specific cohorts, verbally and in writing.
Negotiation and influence skills: Ability to influence and gain cooperation of internal and external stakeholders to create and maintain mutually beneficial relationships
Adaptation and problem-solving skills: Demonstrated resilience adapting to changing environments; proposes innovative solutions to identified problems
Organisational skills and teamwork: Ability to effectively plan and manage multiple tasks independently and as part of a team; ability to work collaboratively to achieve outcomes
Current driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
Valid Working with Children Check card Successful Police Check.
