Chef / Kitchen Manager

Spring Bay Mill
  • Part Time role

ABOUT SPRING BAY MILL:

Once the world’s largest woodchip mill, the Spring Bay Mill outside Triabunna on Tasmania’s spectacular east coast is being dramatically refashioned into one of Australia’s leading conference centres, corporate retreats, wedding venues, performance spaces and progressive think-tank laboratories. Future thinking happens among the 43-hectare site’s artefacts of the past: ancient aboriginal middens and rusting 20th-century industrial machinery, framed against the backdrop of nearby Maria Island. We’ve turned The Mill from environmentally destructive hub into a place of creativity, reflection, storytelling, celebration and sensitively-regenerated landscape.

We are seeking an experienced food maker to join our passionate team.

Glasshouses, chippers, log lines and slew walls, we’re not your average events venue. We’ve up-cycled The Mill’s industrial past into spaces both stunning and functional for performance, weddings, corporate gatherings, meetings & retreats – events of all shapes and sizes.

The Chef & Kitchen Manager role is a chance for a food lover to bring their own aspiring ideas to grow this iconic events destination. As part of the growth of this business we need someone who can take the food offerings to the next level, developing exceptional menus for catered events. You must share our fundamental values of environmental regeneration, organic food production and environmental sustainability. It’s a blank canvas for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities:

  • Head chef for in-house events catering, designing generic and custom menu offerings.
  • Oversee kitchen operations and systems including cleaning routines.
  • Training and managing all casual kitchen staff for events.
  • Prepare budgets and menus for in-house produced food events.
  • Stock rotation and ordering.
  • Develop value added food projects as part of Spring Bay Mill business model, including processing Paddy’s Farm Produce & developing in house meal packs.
  • Maintain kitchen equipment in good working order.

Key skills and experience:

  • Leadership
  • Food passion
  • You most likely have experience in restaurants or commercial catering.
