Join a leading not-for-profit organisation passionate about making a real difference in the lives of migrant and refugee women.

Immigrant Women’s SpeakOut Association of NSW Inc. (SpeakOut) is a women’s organisation run by migrant women for migrant women. We have worked for over 40 years supporting and empowering women facing domestic violence, homelessness, and social exclusion.

About the Role

SpeakOut is seeking a dedicated and experienced Work Placement Officer to support migrant women, some with limited English skills, to access meaningful employment. This role plays a crucial part in preventing homelessness, by supporting them to be financially independent, which is the first step to breaking the cycle of homelessness.

We are looking for a socially conscious and motivated team member who understands the complex barriers faced by women on temporary visas, low English proficiency, and who is passionate about making a tangible difference in their lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage with migrant and refugee women, some undergoing trauma, to understand their experience, skills and work preferences.
  • Build and maintain relationships with state-wide, national and multinational employers to identify suitable placement and employment opportunities.
  • Prepare clients for the workforce through tailored resume support, job interview preparation, and skills development.
  • Support clients through the placement process and continue engagement post-placement to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Liaise with employers to provide ongoing support and manage expectations. • Maintain accurate records, employer databases, and administrative reports.
  • Assist with day-to-day operations of the organisation as needed.

Essential Criteria

  • At least two years’ experience in recruitment, placement or similar role.
  • Tertiary qualification in relevant field.
  • Understanding and awareness of social or community sector work.
  • A deep commitment to client service and improving outcomes for women.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • A current National Police Check or willingness to obtain one.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working with migrant and refugee communities.
  • Current NSW driver’s licence and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.

Employment Conditions

  • Working with Children Check (WWCC) and National Police Check are mandatory.
  • Being a woman is a genuine occupational qualification under Section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
  • Candidates from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Join us to make a positive difference in the lives of migrant and refugee women.
