ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Southern Women’s Group (SWG) Inc is a not-for-profit community service based on the South Coast of NSW. We are a feminist-based organisation, and our vision is to ensure that all women are safe, respected, empowered and supported to flourish.

SWG Inc provides auspice for the Women’s Resource Centre (WRC) in Bega. It also provides auspice for the South Coast Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service (SCWDVCAS)). It is the Court Advocacy Service for the Eden, Bega, Moruya, Batemans Bay, Nowra and Milton Local Courts. Our highly skilled and professional staff provide trauma-informed, client centred and culturally safe support to clients.

We provide information, referrals, and advocacy to women and their children who are, or who have been, experiencing domestic and family violence. This includes legal protection through the application for Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders through the Local Courts. We also assist women with safety planning, case management and case coordination.

SWG also currently provides domestic and family violence community engagement and awareness raising services and activities in the Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla and Bega Valley local government areas.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Women’s Resource Centre (WRC) is a drop in, information & referral service that is often the first point of contact for women in the Bega Valley experiencing domestic, family and sexual violence. It also provides a welcoming environment for women experiencing homelessness, social isolation and family breakdown, and those women seeking a safe communal space to share activities and experiences.

We are looking for a dynamic and self -motivated manager to provide leadership and a client focussed response to women accessing the Centre. The Manager will work collaboratively with other SWG programs and staff, local community -based and government services, and will directly manage a small team of paid staff and volunteers. The WRC has a significant profile in the Bega Valley and beyond and you will be expected to sustain an effective social media presence and be available for media and other events to promote the activities of the Centre.

The Manager’s activities also include providing:

  • Support and referrals for family and domestic violence services
  • Support and referrals for sexual violence services
  • Support and advocacy to access housing and accommodation services
  • Referral to legal support and court-based services
  • Workshops and other outreach activities for WRC clients
  • Other generalist or specialist services providing support for victim survivors
  • Oversight of domestic and family violence community development and education activities
  • Implementing daily operational procedures for optimal centre management and
  • Investigating opportunities for, and compiling, grant applications, request for tender proposals and other associated funding documents.

Applicants must have a commitment to supporting and empowering women and children, have a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients from diverse backgrounds and have a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with clients in crisis.

The successful applicant will hold tertiary qualifications in a relevant field e.g. social work, community services, and demonstrated substantial experience in domestic and family violence service provision. They will possess demonstrated sound organisational, administrative, and management skills.

This position is open to female applicants only. SWG Inc considers being a woman to be a genuine occupational qualification for this position under section 31 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).

The preferred applicant will be required to hold a valid driver’s license, and have, or will acquire, a Working with Children Check and a National Police Records Check.

The position is permanent part-time (subject to funding) for 28 hours per week (Tuesday-Friday) and is Classification Level 6 of the SCHADS award, with the pay point for the successful applicant dependent on their qualifications and experience.

The primary work location is Bega, but you may be required to work at other SWG locations from time to time.
