About the role:

Thank you for your interest in applying for the position of Community Engagement Officer.

The Community Engagement Officer will work as part of a multidisciplinary mental health team to plan, organise and implement centre engagement activities for headspace Onkaparinga and Emerge Teams. The Community Engagement Officer will support the services through community engagement and participation activities and develop resources that supports enhancement of mental health literacy and reduces stigma related to mental illness in the wider community.

The Community Engagement Officer will also provide education, service information and present on relevant mental health topics to relevant community organisations, including schools and other groups.

The Community Engagement Officer will also have responsibility for volunteer groups and committees including the headspace Onkaparinga Youth Reference Group, Talkin’ About Your headspace Youth Ambassadors and Family and Friends Reference Group.
The Community Engagement Officer will facilitate centre engagement groups, developed with the centre’s Emerge Team and Clinical Team Co-facilitation of centre engagement groups will be supported by the centre’s volunteers and other centre staff where applicable.

A key component of the Community Engagement Officer role will assist the centre with the management of partnerships and service linkages to provide appropriate clinical pathways for the service to ensure there is early intervention, responsive, and recovery focused care for young people aged 12 – 25 years. This includes management and support of headspace Onkaparinga’s Consortium and Project Partners.

This position supports all programs delivered in the headspace Onkaparinga centre, including the Emerge Program. The position sits within the broader Sonder Youth Services stream and has close working relationships across Sonder’s other programs, including other headspace centres.

About Sonder, Lead Agency for headspace (effective as of 01 July 2019)

What is the role of a lead agency?

Each local headspace Centre is led by a lead agency on behalf of a local partnership of organisations responsible for the delivery of mental health, drug & alcohol and primary care services as well as community-based providers of vocational assistance and training.

Lead Agencies are locally based and run services that are able to share the vision of a headspace Centre and ensure this is appropriately meeting the needs of the local community.
