The Position:

The Senior Research Officer (SRO)is a joint initiative of the National Child and Family Hubs Network (the Network), Murdoch Children’s Research Institute and SNAICC. The position will be employed by SNAICC as part of the Policy & Research Unit and co-located at MCRI and SNAICC. The SRO will undertake research and provide high-level evidence and policy analysis on issues related to SNAICC’s objectives and the rights and needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Broad knowledge and understanding of issues impacting upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families, and commitment to the rights, needs and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and liaise with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and organisations and facilitate their involvement in projects, policies and consultation processes.
  • Building a reputation as an outstanding researcher and is working towards building a national/international reputation including securing own funding
  • Track record in research leadership and/or knowledge translation [Ability to translate complex information into accessible, culturally relevant insights]
  • Evidence of postdoctoral research outputs and impact as evidenced by publication records (including first or senior author papers), conference attendance
  • Demonstrated capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Advanced communication, presentation and writing skills
  • Education and supervision of future researchers and successful higher degree student completions
  • A proactive mindset and ability to anticipate challenges and opportunities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work autonomously and to lead and engage others
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with experience communicating to a wide range of stakeholders

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Relevant Degree qualification in disciplines related to the wellbeing, development, health and education of children.
  • Working with Children Check
  • Current police check (no older than three months)
  • Current Driver’s License
