The Smith Family is a national children’s education charity that works with children and young people experiencing poverty to overcome their circumstances and reach their full potential by providing holistic, long-term support for their education.

The Katherine Region Communities for Children (CfC) program operates within an area of approximately 326,326.7 km2 of the Northern Territory, encompassing around 26 remote communities and several townships between the Queensland and Western Australia borders. Working with a range of organisations, we support inclusive activities and initiatives that improve outcomes for children and families.

About the role

As part of the Communities for Children (CfC) team, the Project Officer will provide support with administration and contract management, as well as data coordination and reporting. Whether it be meeting with local Elders, attending a Kriol course or upskilling in 4WD Driving, every day will be a little different. Reporting to the Project Manager, Communities for Children, you will:

  • Connect with Community Partners; to build relationships, participate in events and deepen your understanding of the needs of the community.
  • Complete administrative tasks, project planning, data coordination and reporting to help our Community Partners and focus our efforts.
  • Contribute as valued member of our Team and collaborate with the broader organisation.

About you

Just as this opportunity is unique, we understand that the successful candidate for this role could come from varied backgrounds with different skills and experiences. As well as passion for community, you’ll bring:

  • Local knowledge of Katherine and the Big Rivers Region, or similar remote locations, with some experience building strong relationships with families and community stakeholders
  • Tertiary qualification or equivalent in Social Science, Humanities or equivalent work experience
  • Capability to work autonomously; organising your own day, problem solving and adapting when things don’t go to plan
  • Computer literacy and motivation; completing administrative or data entry tasks (using Word, Excel, and Outlook) and achieving goals
  • A current driver’s licence
  • An Ochre Card and National Police Check (or be willing to obtain these)
