Our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) provide a range of services in the local community to children, adolescents, and their families with a range of difficulties that seriously impact on their mental health and emotional wellbeing. The majority of services are delivered by community-based teams, providing treatment and care close to people's homes. Some services are delivered from hospital in inpatient settings.
We have a range of professionals with the skills needed to assess, treat, and provide ongoing evaluation of children, young people and their families. The professionals that are employed in CAMHS include child psychiatrists, clinical and counselling psychologists, specialised social workers, occupational therapists, dieticians, psychotherapists, family therapists and specialist nurses. Teams work together and consult with each other on a regular basis.
This position is based at Thomas Walker Hospital (Rivendell).
Safeguards is a specific multi-disciplinary program within community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) that provides early and brief therapeutic intervention for children and young people (0-17) experiencing acute mental health distress. This team is a community based across Sydney Local Health District and provides in partnership with other service providers a rapid, mobile, and flexible evidence-based mental health and systemic intervention to resolve mental health crisis.
This may include individual, family, parenting and group therapy, and collaboration with wider systems such educational, community and non-government services. This team operates 7 days/week with extended hours, and will respond to young people in their schools, homes and communities and in hospital-based setting (EDs/Wards), through face to face, phone appointments.
Child protection is the core responsibility of all who work in the child and adolescent mental health service. All staff are required to have detailed knowledge of and comply with policies and procedures relating to Child Protection and the NSW Health Code of Conduct. All clinicians are responsible for ensuring that identified issues are documented, escalated and action occurs as appropriate.
