Where the Role Fits within Sisterworks & Your Contribution
The Grants Administration and Writing Officer plays a vital role in securing funding aligned with SisterWorks’ mission by supporting the full grants lifecycle including researching, application development, reporting and acquittals - under the guidance of the Head of Impact. This position not only drives successful grant submissions but also helps maintain strong funding relationships to support the long-term sustainability of SisterWorks’ mission.
Working collaboratively with internal teams, this role helps ensure that grant activities are informed by organisational priorities, data and impact stories. It involves using grants management tools (e.g., GEM Portal) and CRM systems to track deadlines and reporting obligations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research, identify and pursue grant opportunities aligned with SisterWorks' mission using the GEM Portal and other tools.
- Prepare, write, edit and submit high-quality grant applications under the supervision of the Head of Impact, ensuring compliance and timely delivery.
- Work with all departments to develop grant budgets, coordinate project plans and ensure alignment with funding requirements.
- Collaborate with the Head of Impact to ensure application content is data-informed, relevant and compelling.
- Prepare and develop clear, accurate funder reports including impact reports and project updates, in line with grant reporting obligations.
- Create and maintain a priority list of target funders including government, trusts, foundations and philanthropic bodies.
- Maintain an annual grants calendar aligned with project and program timelines to meet submission deadlines.
SELECTION CRITERIA
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Grants administration expertise: Proven track record in end-to-end grants administration, including prospect research, application writing, submission, reporting and acquittals. Demonstrated success in grant applications such as government, philanthropic trusts and foundations.
- Written communication:Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills with attention to detail. Ability to translate complex information into clear, accessible narratives tailored for different funding bodies.
- Financial acumen: Strong understanding of budget development and experience collaborating with finance teams to manage budgets and ensure compliance.
- Data and systems literacy: Proficient with grants management software (e.g. GEM Portal) and CRMs. Skilled in using data and research to inform applications and produce high-quality reports.

- Time management and organisation: Highly organised with project management skills. Capable of managing multiple priorities while maintaining high standards of quality and attention to detail.
SPECIALIST EXPERTISE
- Educational background: Tertiary qualification in international development, communications, public policy, social research or a related discipline.
- Professional experience: 2–3 years experience in grants writing, submissions, proposal development or fundraising within the not-for-profit, philanthropic or government sector.
