It exists to advocate for the human rights of criminalised and imprisoned women and girls, and their children, and provides services in response to their unmet needs. SIS is a particularly values-driven organisation. We are committed to involving criminalised women in all facets of the organisation. We are also committed to being culturally appropriate, employing Aboriginal workers and Torres Strait Islander workers whenever possible and maintaining strong linkages with First Nations Elders, organisations and communities.

The Reconnect Youth Worker is responsible for providing practical support and counselling to young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, whose mother is in prison in SEQ. Eligible participants are young people aged between 12 and 18 years, including 17-18 year old young women with lived prison experience.
The worker is part of a 2 person Sisters Inside Youth Team, who’s funding is provided under the Reconnect Program through the Commonwealth Department of Families and Community Services. The worker is expected to work closely with other SIS workers in accordance with the Mission, Values & Vision, model of service, policies and procedures of SIS.
The program will provide intensive support to help young people to engage and/or reengage with family and community; enhance their confidence and independence; and address barriers to participation in education, training, employment and community life.
In all their duties, the Worker is expected to work in accordance with the Mission; Values & Vision; model of service; and policies and procedures of Sisters Inside (SIS).
