About this opportunity

We are seeking a Consultant Economist to join our team in Melbourne, Sydney, or Canberra. Our team strives to use the latest data, research and analytical tools to address real-world problems and provide insightful public policy advice to our clients.

A bit about you

You will have formal qualifications in economics, planning or a similar quantitative field. If you have a background with experience in a more technical field related to climate change, you are also encouraged to apply. You will also have three to four work experience in the private or public sector, gaining experience in project management, preparing high quality and engaging reports, presentations and proposals for clients and communicating effectively.

You will have strong experience spanning both planning and economics and can translate analytical results into clear policy recommendations. Experience applying economic evaluation techniques, which may include feasibility/viability testing or cost-benefit analysis for example, is essential. Having a strong understanding of the application and techniques, as well as presentation of geospatial information (such as analysis of urban/regional economic environments) will be advantageous.

It is also highly desirable you have experience in advising within strategic and statutory planning contexts. Specific experience may include assessing the impacts of climate change, affordable housing policies and delivery mechanisms, and regional economic strategies. Although not necessary, you may also have qualifications and/or experience in econometrics.

You are skilled in the use of MS Excel and have experience with one or more software packages commonly used for data analysis. You have a keen interest in major economic, social, environmental and policy issues, and be able to work autonomously and alongside a passionate team of professionals from varied backgrounds.
