Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras (SGLMG) is a not-for-profit member-based organisation that organises the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade and Festival every summer, and LGBTQIA+ events year-round. Through our Festival, events and activities we act as a global beacon of pride, progress and community. We work to raise the visibility of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual communities, and champion equality.

Since the first march for freedom in 1978, SGLMG has grown into a leading international arts festival, our iconic Parade now includes over 250,000 people and reaches a digital audience of almost half a billion. As one of the world's biggest Pride movements, our unique combination of social justice, community and celebration is internationally recognisable.

The Role

The Festival Associate Producer contributes to the delivery of assigned SGLMG produced Festival events year-round, as directed by the Executive Producer. (Assigned events come from a broad range of genre, from dance and music events to performing arts, comedy and cabaret. Candidates should indicate their genres of strength and interest)

The role works collaboratively with the Festival Producer (Fair Day) in the development and production of all assigned SGLMG events to world class quality, significance and reputation.

The Festival Associate Producer will collaborate with the Festival Producer to ensure the programming of all assigned SGLMG events contributes to the Festival’s multi-tiered celebration, entertains, engages and enthuses the LGBTQIA+SB communities, the wider community, tourists and spectators alike.

The Festival Associate Producer works to deliver strategies that maintain and develop assigned SGLMG events and ensure their relevance and longevity as part of the world’s leading LGBTQIA+SB and diversity celebration.

The Festival Associate Producer manages aspects of the administrative, financial, creative, production and technical work assigned by the Festival Producer in the preparation, planning, organisation and implementation of assigned SGLMG produced events. Due to the scale of events, workplace and public safety are a key accountability of the Festival and Events teams, under the guidance of the Festival Producer.

The Festival Associate Producer will manage contracted relationships with talent, artists, agents and related talent entities as assigned by the Festival Producer. Sponsorship and media partnerships are essential relationships, and the Festival Associate 2 Producer will assist the Festival Producer to ensure these relationships are successfully nurtured.

The Festival Associate Producer will support the Festival Producer in liaison with key stakeholder groups, venue partners, arts & cultural organisations and government agencies as a representative of SGLMG.

Qualifications & experience

  • 3+ years or more as an Associate Producer, Producer or Event Manager in various event environments.
  • Demonstrable project management skills and experience with relevant ERP tools.
  • Experience and knowledge event production and operations including technical, interpreting technical drawings, producing event manual and documentation, reviewing and complying with risk documents.
  • Work Health & Safety knowledge including the WH&S Act and relevant legislation.
  • Previous experience working with the LGBTQIA+SB and/or First Nations communities.
  • Experience in effective negotiation and dealing with conflict.
  • Experience working with competing priorities in a dynamic environment with an ability to work autonomously.
  • Excellent Crew and staff management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills including stakeholder presentations, public speaking, working in a diverse and progressive environment.
  • Advanced excel, word, powerpoint and keynote skills. Must be able to pick up on event bespoke databases quickly and be IT savvy.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Deliver world class events across a multi-platform and multi-genre event strategy.
  • Liaise with and maintain key stakeholder relationships including LGBTQIA+SB communities and organisations, government agencies, venues and partners.
  • Maintain and champion the organisation core values and adhere to the organisation ethics charter.
  • Maintain budgets with minimal variance between forecast and actual expenditure.
  • Provide relevant and timely input to the Festival Producer on assigned work areas and project deliverables.
  • Support the Festival Producer manage any applicable revenue streams and appropriate reporting associated with these streams.
  • Effective delivery of event production and operations in various event environments.
