Department
Business Development (BD) is responsible for building and delivering sustainable funding streams which financially support the organisation to achieve its mission to Defend, Conserve and Protect our ocean and its inhabitants. This objective is met through several fundraising and philanthropy initiatives, corporate and community partnerships, merchandise, and volunteer outreach activities. All initiatives promote Sea Shepherd Australia (SSA) and its work to the wider community through strategies and activities which raise awareness of the organisation and create fundraising and funding opportunities.
Position
The Individual Giving Coordinator works closely with the Business Development Manager (BDM) to develop and implement the Individual Giving Strategy across multiple channels to drive revenue & growth. The role incorporates the day-to-day operation and ongoing development of Sea Shepherd Australia’s direct response program which includes cash appeals and regular giving.

THE ROLE
- Single Gift Appeals
- Coordinate and deliver number of single gift appeals to acquire, retain and reactivate single gift supporters for SSA using telemarketing, direct mail, EDM, social media and SMS channels.
- Report and analyse the effectiveness of all single gift appeals, to measure acquisition, retention, attrition and ROI
- Implement ongoing tactics for conversion from single gift to regular giving.
- Regular Giving
- Coordinate, deliver and maintain a program that works to acquire, retain and reactivate our regular givers for Sea Shepherd Australia, using telemarketing, direct mail, EDM, social media and SMS channels.
- Report and analyse the effectiveness of all regular giving programs, to measure acquisition, retention, attrition and ROI
- Programs Management
- Work closely with BDM to develop and manage income and expense budgets, forecasting and reporting across individual giving programs, new and existing.
- Project Manage the Appeals and Regular Giving Programs to produce timelines for each activity to ensure they are executed on time and on budget.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure they are involved and informed of deadlines.
- Work closely with BDM to develop and manage income and expense budgets for Appeals and Regular Giving Programs.
- Work collaboratively and seek input from relevant internal and external stakeholders to develop detailed creative appeal briefs.
- Third-Party Relations
- Coordinate and deliver a suite of telemarketing programs with telemarketing agencies to acquire, convert, upgrade, retain and reactivate Regular Givers and single gift supporters.
- Report and analyse the effectiveness of all regular giving telemarketing programs.
- Prepare and present regular updates and training sessions for telemarketers.
- Liaise and develop productive working relationships with external agencies to successfully conduct acquisition, retention, and upgrade programs for both single gift and regular giving programs.
- Donor Stewardship Cultivation and Care
- Work closely and collaboratively with BDM, Communications, and IT/Data team to contribute to producing engaging content for supporter communications.
- Coordinate and deliver an integrated retention and engagement program, including seamless automated donors’ journeys both off and online to ensure timely delivery of all donor communications.
- Ensure donation processing, receipting, recognition, and ongoing supporter care is delivered to the highest standard.
Selection criteria essential
You will have:
- Demonstrated experience and an outstanding track record of success in managing end-to-end and ongoing direct response campaigns.
- Demonstrated experience in the successful planning and implementation of donor retention and acquisition strategies that meet budget requirements.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills demonstrated by the ability to develop and maintain relationships with people from all levels of business and community.
- Experience in report writing, complimented by strong data and analytical skills.
- A clear understanding of fundraising practices in particular regular giving programs.
- High attention to detail with excellent organisation, time management and project management skills.
- Experience using fundraising CRM (or other customer relationship management databases), Mailchimp and 3rd Party platforms.
