Do you have a passion for empowering young people and creating inclusive communities?

We’re looking for a Youth Engagement Practitioner to join our vibrant, youth-led program aimed at empowering multicultural young people aged 12–25. This youth-led initiative is driven by young people and shaped by their voices. Through group workshops, school holiday programs, and the planning and delivery of musical and cultural events, we aim to strengthen social connections, cultural identity, leadership skills, and community involvement.

How this role fits the bigger picture:

As the Youth Engagement Practitioner, you will play a key role in:

  • Engaging and building relationships with young people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Supporting youth-led planning and delivery of programs and events.
  • Facilitating leadership and skills development activities that promote confidence, connection, and community contribution.
  • Collaborating with the Youth Leadership Group to develop innovative responses to emerging issues.
  • Strengthening local partnerships and networks to enhance outcomes for multicultural youth.
  • Accurately recording engagement activities using SECL’s client systems and contributing to ongoing evaluation and reporting.

Key skills required to undertake the position:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Youth Work, Community Services, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in youth services
  • Proven ability to support and deliver programs that meet key performance indicators.
  • Strong skills in youth engagement, community development, and capacity building.
  • Experience in project planning, workshop delivery, and event coordination.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Agile mindset with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with data collection and report writing.
  • Proficiency in an Afghan language is highly desirable but not essential.

The successful candidate will be required to undertake Safety Screening checks prior to commencement of employment including a national police record check and valid Working with Children Check.
