How you will fit into the bigger picture

As the Family Violence and Capacity Building Coordinator, you will drive systemic change through coordinated training, community engagement, and co-location strategies with our partners. Your work will ensure culturally safe, trauma-informed responses that enhance support pathways for some of our community’s most vulnerable members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with partners and co-design the family and sexual violence training materials for capacity building of service staff. 
  • Coordinate and support the delivery of training for SECL’s frontline teams, including emergency relief, financial counselling, and settlement services.
  • Collaborate with our partners to tailor training that addresses identified knowledge and practice gaps in working with CALD victim-survivors.
  • Facilitate the review and development of culturally responsive intake processes and community education models. 
  • Co-design, plan and deliver culturally appropriate community education sessions to multi-cultural community groups. 
  • Support co-location of staff between SECL and partners to foster mutual learning, improved referrals, and integrated service delivery.
  • Facilitate the establishment of service system and collaboration with specialist sexual and family violence services to prevent family and sexual violence in multi-cultural communities.  
  • Undertake evaluation and reporting as per the funding agreements.
  • Lead the advocacy in prevention of sexual and family violence in multi-cultural communities through the active engagement with statewide and local networks.
  • Provide family violence prevention support through secondary consultations to the Settlement Team.
  • Development of resource materials to be used by both staff and multi-cultural community groups in prevention of family and sexual violence. 

Key skills required to undertake the position

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Community Development, or a related field.
  • Experience working in Family Violence and Sexual Violence Prevention and response.
  • Demonstrated experience in partnership coordination, workforce development, and delivering training or community education.
  • Strong understanding of sexual and family violence, intersectional feminist and trauma-informed care, knowledge in legal obligations relating to Sexual and family violence, service systems and referral pathways. 
  • Experience working with multicultural and faith communities including people from refugee backgrounds. 
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage projects and support strategic outcomes.
  • Bilingual and lived experience are preferred.
