Side By Side Advocacy is starting a group for people with intellectual disability to build their leadership skills.

The groups is called - Access all areas leadership group.

We are looking for a person with intellectual disability to help run the group. That person will be a Peer Mentor.

The Peer Mentor will assist people with intellectual disability based on their own knowledge and experience.

Some duties of the mentor are:

• share information
• share insights
• help people feel more confident to speak up.

The leadership group mentor must have had experience in leadership roles.

This could include experience:

• on a board
• on a committee
• sharing views with political leaders
• being a peer mentor on a previous occasion.

The leadership group mentor will also have:

• public speaking experience

• experience sharing their own story with impact
• group facilitation skills
• experience developing positive relationships with people.

They will be able to describe what gets in the way of people with intellectual disability being included in their community.

This is a casual role for 4 hours per fortnight. The role ends in December 2024.

Pay is based on the SCHADS Award, Level 3.

It is a requirement of this job that you successfully complete a police check and a working with children check before starting work.
