The Green Climate Fund accredited Save the Children Australia on behalf of the SC movement in November 2019. Our partnership with GCF is enabling us to deliver impact at scale for children, provides access and evidence for advocacy and cements SC's ability to showcase climate action for children, drawing in additional climate partnerships.

A place to make a difference:

In this part-time, permanent role (0.5 FTE with very flexible work patterns available), you'll work as a part of our Climate Change Division team (from any location in Australia or globally), to help us create lasting change for children everywhere.

The ESS Advisor plays a pivotal role in leadership specifically on ESS matters for the Climate Change Division's Green Climate Fund portfolio, and more broadly for the organisation as a whole, driving good practices in ESS.

You will make a difference by:

  • Providing leadership on all aspect of ESS for the GCF portfolio
  • Driving the replicating of good practice across the wider movement's portfolio building on our global ESS tool
  • Overseeing compliance with and adherence to organisational policies, guidelines, and donor requirements regarding environmental and social safeguarding
  • Providing technical support for all aspects related to the implementation of project level ESMFs
  • Leading the development of the necessary technical guidelines for project staff
  • Monitoring all required environmental and social mitigation measures set out in GCF project level ESMFs

Your deep expertise in developing and implementing Environmental and Social Management Frameworks and other safeguarding instruments is invaluable.

This role requires:

  • At least 5 years' experience in environmental and social impact assessment and risk management
  • Proficiency in English, both verbal and written
  • ESS and ESMF training and certification
  • International aid & development experience
  • In addition, you will be required to hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Environmental Science, Social Sciences, Environmental Engineering, International Public Health or Development AND a Master's Degree in related fields such as Environmental Management, Social Impact Assessment, or Sustainable Development.
  • Certifications such as ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems) or equivalent are also highly preferred.
