SASS is a not-for-profit community-based response and counselling service supporting people affected by sexual assault. SASS also offers primary prevention education for schools, organisations, workplaces, community groups and individuals. SASS is an organisation guided by trauma informed principles, and highly values diversity, continuous quality improvement and staff development.

SASS is seeking a passionate, energetic and committed Primary Prevention Educator to join our team. This is a part time position (ideally 0.8 FTE but open to a range between 0.6 FTE and full-time), fixed term position located in Hobart, with some flexibility including working from home arrangements.

about the role

Working within a passionate team you will be responsible for researching, developing, promoting, delivering and assessing a range of training programs in various settings and to diverse audiences, on topics such as myths, facts and statistics about sexual assault; rape culture; consent; being an ethical bystander; responding to disclosures of sexual harm; harmful sexual behaviours in children; and tools for working with survivors of sexual assault.

SASS encourages you to apply for this role if you have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Education, Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or other relevant field, or
  • Certificate IV in Assessment and Training or Diploma of Training Design and Development.
  • Excellent presentation delivery and learner engagement skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of the stages of development in children or knowledge of harmful sexual behaviours and protective behaviour skills.
  • Working knowledge of trauma informed practice.
  • An understanding of the effects of sexual trauma on people and the community.
  • Ability to work with a high level of professionalism and autonomy within a flexible team environment.
  • Experience or a passion for developing new programs aimed at reducing sexual harm and raising awareness.
  • A current National Police Check and Working with Vulnerable People Card are requirements for all SASS employees.
