SANE is committed to creating a brighter future for Australians affected by complex mental health issues, by ending mental health inequity and social and economic exclusion. We provide free digital mental health support services and run a variety of mental health awareness, stigma reduction, research, and advocacy programs. We support diverse workforce segments, including those living with complex mental health issues, and the broader community. We are 100+ people with a volunteer work force of circa 60 people.

About the role

Community Builders are integral to ensuring a safe, vibrant and supportive online community within the SANE Forums. This role involves direct interaction with members, moderating content, promoting discussions, identifying member needs, providing community-based support, and contributing insights for service improvement. You will foster community engagement alongside Community Guide volunteers to enhance the forum experience for individuals with lived experience of complex mental health conditions, carers, family and friends. 

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Actively monitor forum discussions during contracted business hours to ensure they are consistent with community guidelines 
  • Enforce the community guidelines consistently and take appropriate actions as per SANE policies
  • Implement crisis intervention strategies (including escalations) when immediate risks are identified
  • Proactively identify forum members who may require higher-intensity support
  • Engage with the community through discussions, providing recovery orientated support
  • Facilitate connections between members with similar experiences or interests
  • Work within SANE’s Model of Care and Clinical Governance Framework

About You

  • Qualification in Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health, or a related field
  • Experience in a community engagement or support role, ideally with specific experience within a mental health context
  • Experience in working with diverse populations and fostering inclusive online communities
