To date Solomon Islands participation in the Australian Seasonal Worker Programme (SWP) has been low relative to many other participating countries. As a result the Solomon Islands Government and Australian Government are working together to improve supply of and demand for Solomon Islands workers. A dedicated Australian Government aid program aiming to increase Solomon Islands participation in the SWP has been established and is called Boost for short.
Pasifiki HR, a private company based in Honiara, is contracted to deliver Boost. The program works alongside the Labour Mobility Unit (LMU) staff within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade (MFAET).
Boost has 4 objectives:
- Improved supply of Solomon Islands workers to Australia’s Seasonal Worker program
- Strengthened demand for Solomon Islands’ workers
- Integrity of Solomon Islands’ participation in SWP is strengthened
- Increased benefits to Solomon Islands families and communities
This role will support Boost program activities in Australia with a focus on:
- strategically supporting current employers and workers
- fostering new and maintaining current programme relationships.
Reporting to the Support Program Manager, the contractor will perform the following duties:
- Plan a defined work activity schedule informed by LMU and Boost
- Support current employers with SWP requirements, particularly in relation to pastoral care, acting as their Australian based point of contact for SWP matters
- Develop strategic relationships and processes to improve pastoral care for Solomon Islander workers, including with diaspora and churches
- Establish and maintain professional relationships with key industry associations and potential employers
- Promote Solomon Islander workers at events, trade fairs and directly to potential employers
- Be across issues raised about the SWP program in Australia and report these back to LMU and Boost
- Carry out other tasks requested by Pasifiki HR in relation Boost
- Travel up to 7 weeks throughout Australia and Solomon Islands
Qualification
- A degree in Community Development, Marketing or extensive relevant experience
Skills and Experience
- Experience delivering short term contracts
- Demonstrated experience establishing new initiatives, ensuring appropriate systems, processes and communications are in place
- Demonstrated experience liaising and negotiating with a diverse range of stakeholders
- High level interpersonal skills including public speaking and writing for all audiences
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, work independently and remotely
- Understanding of the SWP in Australia including the AE accreditation process
- Understanding of Solomon Islands culture and custom
- Speak fluent English and conversational Solomon Islands Pijin
