The Royal Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals NSW is a not-for-profit organisation in Australia that cares for, treats, protects and rehomes animals across the state, providing a strong voice for animals experiencing cruelty and neglect. We run a number of shelters and veterinary hospitals dedicated to treating, rehabilitating and rehoming animals. With over 500 staff, RSPCA NSW is dedicated to working with the community to prevent cruelty to animals by actively promoting their care and protection.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our Sydney Veterinary Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Veterinary Nurse to join our nursing team on a full-time basis. Veterinary Nurses are an integral and valued part of our team, responsible for ensuring the wellbeing of animals in the care of RSPCA NSW.

Our Veterinary Nurses work on a seven-day rotating roster between the hours of 7 a.m. – 8 p.m., including weekends.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

On a day-to-day basis, you will:

  • Contribute to our positive clinic culture
  • Work a rotating roster across surgical, medical, intensive care, dental, isolation, orthopaedic, recovery and consulting nurse duties
  • Conduct regular checks and record patient’s condition and vital signs
  • Prepare and assist with medical procedures, including x-rays, ultrasounds and endoscopes
  • Run laboratory tests using our fully equipped in-house laboratory
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and disease control
  • Administer medications, provide exercise and environmental enrichment, and feed and water animals
  • Monitor animal vital signs while under anaesthetic and in recovery, including blood pressure, temperature, C02 and 02, respiratory rate and heart rate, and be able to recognise and correct any concerns in a patient’s vital signs

ABOUT YOU

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (essential)
  • Minimum 2 years’ professional experience post completion of Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing
  • A commitment and interest in ongoing education
  • Enthusiasm to work in all areas of veterinary nursing
  • Prior animal-handling experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team
  • An interest in animal welfare
