An exciting opportunity exists to kick start your career in our industry as part of the RSPCA NSW Graduate Training Program. The program has been developed to provide graduate veterinarians, an opportunity to gain experience in shelter medicine. The hospital has been awarded in the past Educational Partner of the Year by University of Sydney. Our trainers are experienced in both undergraduate and post-graduate training worked as clinicians in university veterinary hospitals.

The RSPCA NSW Yagoona, has New Graduates Position available to start in 2024. It is a 12-month contract with a three month rotation out to RSPCA NSW Broken Hill and it does not guarantee a permanent position at the end of the program.

We encourage continuing education in a topic of your choice and AVA, CVE, VIN membership is paid for. Annual EPA licence renewals are also included.

Four weeks of annual leave, one week of study leave and a generous allowance for continuing education pro rata is provided which can be used toward a masters/distance education course. RSPCA NSW is a great place for career progression and support.

About the Opportunity

  • Be involved with treating privately owned animals through our general practice hospital, as well as animals that come through the shelter, collaborate closely with the inspectorate, and go on trips with the community team
  • High regard for work-life balance, with tight adherence to a 38hour working week. You get paid for extra hours worked. Weekend and public holiday work is shared among the vet team, and you get paid for working public holidays!
  • Daily rounds performed to allow case discussions and a collaborative approach to patient management
  • All the necessary gadgets, including a comprehensive in-house IDEXX laboratory suite, GE ultrasound (both abdominal & echocardiography), digital radiography, endoscopy (bronchoscopy & gastroscopy), IM3 dental equipment, vet-tome, dental radiography and a complete suite of orthopaedic surgical equipment with dedicated theatres
  • Be part of a collegial veterinary team, with 10 vets at work each day to support each other in all services
  • Visiting specialists assist in staff training and complex surgical case management
  • Highly trained nursing and support staff, led by an experienced senior nursing team to ensure skilled staff assist you with patient management
  • Specialised reception team help with client liaison and nurse discharge consultations
  • Opportunities to be involved with high volume, high quality desexing programs and with community programs

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Veterinary Science, essential
  • Registration with the Veterinary Practitioners Board of NSW, essential
  • Unrestricted Class C NSW drivers' licence
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills
  • An affinity with animals and a commitment to animal welfare
  • Experience in animal handling and animal care
  • Ability to lift 20kg
  • Sensitivity to reputational risk
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to work under pressure, whilst remaining on task
