As a lead not-for-profit organisation for lived experience of suicide in Australia, Roses in the Ocean (RITO) is focused on building a safe, trained and supported Lived Experience “Workforce” with the expertise and skills needed to bring the lived experience as a voice of change in all aspects of suicide prevention.

We are seeking a Lived Experience Project Coordinator to oversee the establishment and ongoing integration of twenty Lived Experience Advisory Groups across NSW as part of a contract between Roses in the Ocean and the NSW Ministry of Health in relation to the Strategic Framework for Suicide Prevention 2018-2023. This position reports directly to the CEO and will work closely with the Roses in the Ocean National Program Manager and Program Administrator, based in Brisbane, with relation to the recruitment, screening, training, delivery and mentoring of the Local Health District (LHD) Lived Experience Advisory Groups. The role will also be responsible for developing and maintaining key relationships with suicide prevention sector and community organisations within the LHD’s across NSW, with a view to increasing their interaction with the Lived Experience Advisory Groups.

Qualifications

All Roses in the Ocean staff have a lived experience of suicide in accordance with the current definition on the Roses in the Ocean website.

Essential knowledge and skills

  • A lived experience of suicide and an understanding of the impact it has on families, workplaces, friends and communities.
  • Personal values that align with those of Roses in the Ocean and the Lived Experience Guiding Principles.
  • Demonstrated experience as a Program/ Workshop / Project Coordinator or similar role.
  • High degree of professionalism and judgement in dealing with confidential information.
  • Demonstrated capacity to maintain confidentiality and professional standards of behaviour in difficult and sensitive circumstances
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with key people and organisations.
  • Knowledge of social media (RITO website, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) and ability to work closely with the Roses in the Ocean Communications Manager and Communications & Corporate Officer to actively promote initiatives, activities and achievements in the NSW Local Health Districts.
  • Outstanding interpersonal communicator.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills and comfortable as a public speaker at events.
  • Ability to multi-task, self-manage and meet deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of the full Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word and Excel, and able to navigate SharePoint.

Main Responsibilities

Ability to project manage:

  • In collaboration with the National Program Manager, manage the logistics of Roses in the Ocean workshops in the NSW Local Health Districts.
  • Advise and liaise with the National Operations Coordinator regarding workshop budgets from conception through to delivery.
  • Liaise with the National Program Manager regarding allocation of workshop dates, facilitators and screeners
  • Develop, approve and distribute program flyers and Expression of Interest forms online.
  • Manage a part-time Program Administrator who will be responsible for all logistics of delivering workshops
  • Completion of workshop checklists
  • Dissemination and collection of Facilitator Program Reports.
  • Dissemination and collection of pre and post evaluation surveys.
  • Liaison with external clients, evaluators and providers.
  • Liaison and regular reporting to Roses in the Ocean CEO.

Increase lived experience involvement within the sector:

  • Proactively work with sector organisations and community organisations to seek out activities and create opportunities for involvement by regional Lived Experience Advisory Groups.
  • Promote the NSW Local Health District Lived Experience Advisory Groups by fostering collaborative relationships with organisations both in the suicide prevention sector and broader community e.g.; mental health organisations and services, other organisations external to health.
  • Seek out opportunities for networking and relationship building with community service providers, social service organisations, workplaces and HHS.
  • Link services with educational opportunities provided by Roses in the Ocean regarding effective engagement of Lived Experience.
  • Actively find opportunities to link those with lived experience of suicide with other suicide prevention groups and networks (locally and across Australia).
  • Report on any opportunities for Roses in the Ocean to investigate for further Lived Experience engagement.
