Roses in the Ocean is a national not for profit organisation founded on and operating through the lens of lived experience of suicide; we exist to save lives and to reduce emotional distress and pain. We seek to lead the significant cultural shift needed to save lives through harnessing the perspectives of all we represent, along with our own lived experience of suicide. With our actions driven and guided by those with a lived experience of suicide, we innovate and transform suicide prevention, and drive and deliver system reform. We support organisations and government to effectively and meaningfully integrate lived experience expertise into suicide prevention.

Everyone who works within Roses in the Ocean has a lived experience of suicide which is defined as ‘having experienced suicidal thoughts, survived a suicide attempt, supported a loved one through suicidal crisis, or been bereaved by suicide.’

About the Role

Reporting to the General Manager of Operations the Community Consultation and Co-Design Coordinator will work closely with the Organisational and Community Projects Coordinator leading various community consultation projects from beginning to end. This role ensures that well planned, purposeful stakeholder engagement results in meaningful community consultation and where appropriate, co-design, to inform a range of suicide prevention initiatives including service design, establishment and implementation, resources, research, policy and more. This role will combine project management expertise, strong design and administrative capabilities, effective stakeholder engagement, and facilitation skills to achieve impactful, inclusive outcomes.

The role requires the ability to analyse, theme, and report on consultation results, ensuring insights are accurately reflected. A balance is needed between completing administrative components of projects and actively driving front-facing consultation processes.

Responsibilities include:

Community Consultation and Co-design

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, government representatives, NGOs, and private sector partners.
  • Engage with a wide range of stakeholders to foster meaningful collaboration, and act as a key point of contact, ensuring clear and consistent communication.
  • Conduct in-depth research and community scans; design, plan and facilitate community consultation sessions, and co-design initiatives tailored to specific projects or audiences.
  • Lead facilitation of workshops, focus groups, and meetings both in-person and online.
  • Collect feedback and insights from consultations, theme key points, and develop comprehensive and actionable reports.
  • Develop communications and promotional material in collaboration with the Communication and Design team, engage in promotional activities (i.e. media engagements) and develop and/or engage accessibility resources to design more accessible processes.
  • Oversee the logistical and administrative functions of multiple projects and programs collaborating closely with key internal stakeholders as required

Project Management

  • Oversee the end-to-end management of community-focused projects, ensuring key milestones are met within timeframes and budgets.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, stakeholder maps, and communication strategies.
  • Proactively identify risks or challenges within projects and implement strategies to mitigate them.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to streamline alignment between consultation outcomes and organisational goals.
  • Cultivate and manage positive relationships with various stakeholders, clients and communities.
  • Assist in the arrangement of workshop venues, catering and contractor travel for community consultations and/or co-design processes.
  • Facilitate the process for paid participation.
  • Provide technical support for online community consultation and/or co-design sessions and ensure the development and maintenance of high-quality promotional assets, slide decks, participation materials, surveys, EOIs, matrices, templates and other workshop materials.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Communications & Design and Visual Content Specialist to design social assets and schedule communications.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Office 365, Monday.com and SharePoint
