Position Purpose

We are currently seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join as the Manager, Working Groups leading RIAA’s Working Group Program.  The position is accountable for ensuring that RIAA’s industry Working Group activities and outputs are of a high quality, are responsive to members’ needs, and are aligned with RIAA’s 3 Year Strategy, the CEO-approved Working Group Strategy and other Program areas’ work. 

The Manager, Working Groups works closely with Working Group Chairs, and is responsible for ensuring Working Groups develop, and deliver on, work plans, and that Working Group activities and outputs are of a high quality and meet member needs.  Responsibilities also include developing and supporting RIAA’s thematic work, and by driving and managing several strategic partnerships.  The Manager, Working Groups directly supervises a Project Officer. 

Responsibilities: 

The Manager, Working Groups manages and drives RIAA’s investment industry Working Groups Program. Responsibilities as follows:  

  • Lead the implementation of RIAA’s Working Group Strategy, ensuring Working Group activities are aligned with RIAA’s 3 Year Strategy and other work areas’ strategic priorities and activities. 
  • Deliver and project manage a high quality, outcomes-focused program for RIAA’s Working Groups (such as First Nations Peoples’ Rights, Human Rights and Nature), including high quality and relevant content and speakers. 
  • Oversee the Working Group secretariat, including: the coordination of Working Group calendars and speakers; the collation and distribution of papers; the drafting of minutes, notes, agendas and action items; and the clear and practical filing of Working Group material. 
  • Working closely with Working Group Chairs and members, develop and oversee the implementation of targeted and achievable Working Group annual work plans, including annual reviews. 
  • Coordinate the outputs of member-driven sub-groups, ensuring sub-group activities support work plan priorities and remain fit-for-purpose; suggest the establishment and winding up of sub-groups as necessary.
  • Build and maintain strategic working relationships with Working Group members and external stakeholders where relevant and leverage their expertise to support RIAA’s Working Group Strategy and drive member engagement with RIAA. 
  • Ensure Working Groups operate within their Terms of Reference. 
  • Identify and drive efficiencies in RIAA’s Working Group Program.
  • Through the Working Groups and associated activities, engage in several strategic partnerships for RIAA. 
  • Provide briefings to Executives and colleagues on Working Group strategy and activities. 
  • Act as a spokesperson and contact point for RIAA members in relation to the Working Group Program. 
  • Support strategic partnerships for implementing thematic projects that support RIAA’s strategic objectives, such as the Dhawura Ngilan Business and Investor Initiative. 
  • Seek opportunities to leverage thematic and Working Group content to support other RIAA areas, including RIAA’s Policy and Advocacy Program and comms content creation (such as media quotes, newsletters, opinion pieces and social media), the RIAA conferences, and lead the generation and coordination of engaging RIAA conference sessions. 
  • Provide strategic input into RIAA’s Reconciliation Action Plan process as appropriate. 
  • Manage Working Group resources, including ensuring commitments are achievable within available resources, and supervising and mentoring a Project Officer. 
  • Demonstrate RIAA’s values and contribute to the maintenance of a strong organisation-wide culture in line with RIAA’s values, as well as the achievement of corporate objectives. 
  • Effectively identify, mitigate and manage Working Group Program and partnerships-related risks. 
  • Other duties as directed by the Executive Manager.

Selection criteria

  1. Extensive professional experience in project management, including driving the delivery of multiple projects concurrently.
  2. Experience managing committees or working groups, including administration and secretariat services.
  3. Strong leadership and negotiation skills, including the ability to bring people together and gain cooperation from internal and external stakeholders.
  4. A focus on outcomes and demonstrated ability to bring multi-stakeholder projects to completion. 
  5. The ability to prioritise effectively and meet competing deadlines. 
  6. Proven ability to manage staff with strong team engagement and professional development outcomes.
  7. Exceptional stakeholder relationship management skills, including the ability to relate effectively to, and work with, a wide range of stakeholders; and sensitivity to diverse stakeholders’ views and needs.
  8. Excellent organisational skills, including attention to detail. 
  9. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills. 
  10. Experience in Sustainable Development Goal themes and/or the investment sector would be highly regarded.
