About the position

The position provides an exciting opportunity to support the aspirations of the most socially disadvantaged people in the community, Indigenous people in the criminal justice system. Alongside one on one support, the position offers the opportunity to develop and nurture relationships with Indigenous agencies and communities. Importantly, the position has an educative role to ensure culturally responsive services are delivered within the program and as part of a wider Indigenous Project within RFQ.

This position is an Identified Role for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person and is a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are grossly overrepresented in the criminal justice system and this role will provide direct support.

  • Competitive remuneration of $41.52/hour to $44.68/hour plus penalty rates (as applicable)

Qualifications and Skills

  • Four year degree in a human services related field with relevant experience or other tertiary qualification with substantial years of relevant experience, and lived Indigenous experience
  • Proven knowledge related to the delivery of mental health services
  • Proven ability to quickly acquire skills
  • Proven ability to develop collaborative relationships with external stakeholders
  • Proven problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven ability planning, managing, prioritising and supervising work to achieve team and individual priorities
  • Highly proficient in relation to a range of software applications on office based and mobile technology
  • A strong sense of professional boundaries and integrity
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a registered roadworthy and insured vehicle (minimum third-party property)
  • Undergo criminal history screening and obtain and maintain a valid NDIS Worker Screening Clearance pursuant to the Disability Services Act 2006 (Qld)
  • Willingness and ability to undertake vaccination of preventable diseases (this is not inclusive of the COVID-19 vaccine)
