About the Role

FT maximum-term maternity leave cover position (9 months with the possibility of extension).

RFDS Victoria are now accepting applications for a rare opportunity within our Primary Health team. Based in our Richmond Office (with opportunity for some working from home) and reporting to the General Manager for Primary Health, the Health Service Manager (Dental) will play a key leadership role in the successful delivery of the Flying Doctor Dental program operating across rural Victoria.

Flying Doctor Dental has been providing oral health education, screening and treatment for people living in rural communities using mobile and fixed clinics since 2016. These small communities have limited access to public oral health services. This service removes the barrier of distance for those living in these communities, offering access to fundamental health care that improves their health and wellbeing.

Requiring the skills of an enthusiastic and experienced Health Service Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects of running the Flying Doctor Dental service. They will provide an exceptional standard of staff development and management to a passionate team of Team Leaders, Dental Assistants, Oral Health Therapists, Dentists and Oral Health Educators. The Health Service Manager will be required to maintain excellent stakeholder relationships, develop and coach emerging leaders within the team, manage program budgets, provide timely reporting to internal and external stakeholders and be involved extensively in National Safety and Quality Health Service standards (NSQHS) accreditation.

This role sits within the RFDS Victoria Operational Management Team and will be expected to collaborate with others in this forum to improve knowledge sharing and process design across the organisation. Our Operational Management Team is a valued conduit between the Executive team and the wider organisation.

Please note that this role will require travel around the state (restrictions permitting) and as such a drivers licence will be essential.

About You

  • Experienced in managing a busy service, you have a background in health or community/ public program management.
  • You are a logical thinker with the proven ability to navigate the logistics of a complex service including service mapping, scheduling, and management of a dispersed workforce.
  • You have a passion for helping others and understand the mission of the Flying Doctors, and as such can demonstrate a high degree of presentation and professionalism in your daily dealings with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and staff development are activities you are not only experienced with, but passionate about providing to help foster a motivated and engaged team.
  • Having worked within a service that has attained and maintained NSQHS, you are able to demonstrate a strong understanding of the importance of quality and compliance within a health service.
  • An effective problem solver with a “bigger picture” mentality, you can juggle the competing demands of a busy program whilst remaining flexible and responsive to changing needs.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in a health-related discipline/ program management or the ability to demonstrate extensive prior experience.
  • Qualifications or extensive experience in the management of personnel
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of health-sector stakeholders
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide high level reporting and present findings to inform decision making.
  • Proven ability to coach and develop others
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Due to regular travel requirements across the state a Drivers licence will be essential.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in a health-related discipline/ program management or the ability to demonstrate extensive prior experience.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage a busy health program to scope and budget.
  • Problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to manage the logistical requirements of a dispersed workforce.
  • Extensive experience in building relationships with a wide variety of health care sector stakeholders
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor team members and emerging leaders.
