Located at our Wellbeing Place, this role will assist the development of frameworks, systems and projects that build capacity in the community and consumer engagement and participation, and planning activities that will support the RFDS Health services. The Community Engagement Officer will provide internal consultancy to department managers and staff on the planning and delivery of community engagement strategies.

In this role, you will actively participate as part of the Mental health, Alcohol and other drug wellbeing RFDSSE team building resilient, well-connected communities, and raising the profile of the RFDSSE in the communities we serve. The role will be responsible for frontline community engagement and relationship management supporting the overall mission of the RFDS.

The role will be responsible for frontline Mental health, alcohol, other drug and wellbeing community engagement and health promotion without our rural outreach areas working with a variety of demographics and age groups.

Essential Criteria for the Role

  • Community relations role or related field and/or relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating and facilitating health programs, events, and activities within a community setting
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate community awareness programs
  • An understanding of person-centred care and the role of consumers in the planning, design, delivery and evaluation of health services
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of health literacy, consumer and community engagement and network development, including current policies and frameworks
  • Current unrestricted driver’s licence
  • Knowledge or understanding of Mental health, wellbeing, alcohol and other drug concerns
  • Demonstrated relationships and networking skills with external services and network residents
  • An understanding and knowledge of natural disasters and the effects
  • Awareness and an understanding of the Far West Pastoral Communities and Services

Desirable Criteria for the Role

  • Experience in the not for profit/non-Government sector
