We are looking for someone to manage all aspects of Resource’s information technology and digital infrastructure. This person must have experience managing IT systems, understand cybersecurity, work towards improving current systems and have the ability to engage with and support people with little IT experience.

About us

Resource is a national leader in the waste minimisation industry, operating Tasmania's largest reuse centre (the Resource Tip Shop at South Hobart) and other waste reduction and recycling initiatives. Resource is one of the oldest and largest not-for-profit worker’s cooperatives in Australia.

Resource works with communities, businesses and local government to achieve viable, sustainable, best-practice waste minimisation. The Resource Tip Shop delivers accessible, low-cost quality goods, and is a trusted reseller of a wide range of second-hand items. Resource works to continuously improve its business and operations, is supported by an innovative community education program, and aims to provide a safe and satisfying work environment.

About the role

The IT Manager oversees and maintains the organisation’s databases and IT systems, ensuring they are upgraded, monitored and functioning reliably. They provide employee support and training, manage hardware/software installations and upgrades, and troubleshoot system issues. This role also includes overseeing site-wide IT infrastructure, liaising with external clients as needed, and safeguarding assets through disaster recovery, backup, and security protocols. Additionally, they ensure compliance with organisational policies to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.

Key selection criteria

  • Commitment to working with the values and principles of the Resource Work Cooperative.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues of Workplace Health and Safety.
  • Experience with managing IT systems in a small to medium-sized organisation.
  • Knowledge of best practice cybersecurity systems and their application to reliably protect an organisation.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work with and refine established IT systems so that they are simple, functional and appropriate to the needs of the users.
  • Strong technical background in different operating systems.
  • Experience in older technology and ability to work with mixed formats or retrofit systems for reuse.
  • Willingness to engage with and support people with little IT experience, including educating small groups on how to fix basic IT issues.
  • Ability to self-direct and self-manage.

Desirable criteria

  • Ability to attend evening meetings approximately once a month, and occasional events outside work hours.
  • Familiarity with CCTV systems and operation.
  • Knowledge of co-operatives and/or consensus decision-making.
  • An interest in waste minimisation.
