We are looking for a person who is excited to join a not-for-profit worker’s cooperative to manage all aspects of Resource’s Human Resource (HR) systems to meet relevant business and legal requirements. This person must have relevant HR qualifications and experience, strong reporting skills, excellent communication skills, be willing to job share, work in a team, and work with the Board of Management.
Resource is a national leader in the waste minimisation industry, operating Tasmania's largest reuse centre (the Resource Tip Shop at South Hobart) and other waste reduction and recycling initiatives. Resource is one of the oldest and largest not-for-profit worker’s cooperatives in Australia.
Resource works with communities, businesses and local governments to achieve viable, sustainable, best-practice waste minimisation. The Resource Tip Shop delivers accessible, low-cost quality goods, and is a trusted reseller of a wide range of second-hand items. Resource undertakes a diverse range of projects and activities, including timber upcycling, scrap metal and e-waste processing, electrical testing, collectables research and sales, computer upcycling and online sales. Resource runs a free community pickup service for larger donations, and engages with the wider community through its annual Art From Trash exhibition. The Resource Work Cooperative works to continuously improve its business and operations, is supported by an innovative community education program, and aims to provide a safe and satisfying work environment.
The HR Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all of Resource’s HR activities and responsibilities in line with legal and business requirements and obligations. These activities include but are not limited to: rostering, the recruitment cycle, induction and training, supporting worker wellbeing, performance management, conflict resolution, worker’s compensation, and review of policy and procedure.
The HR Coordinator works closely with the Board of Management and the Coordinator team (General, Operations, Education and Finance) to provide strategic guidance in relation to all HR aspects of the organisation. The person in this role needs to deliver comprehensive and timely reports to various decision-making panels. They also work with the general membership to understand HR requirements in order to support the membership to make informed business decisions through regular General Meetings.
The HR Coordinator is a job-shared role, with a total of 4 days per week spread between two people. The advertised position is for 2 days per week, with the other 2 days being worked by an experienced HR Coordinator who has been in the role for 9 years. The new HR Coordinator will need excellent communication and organisational skills in order to collaborate and work effectively with the current HR Coordinator.

One of the most exciting aspects of joining a worker’s cooperative is the ability to contribute ideas and participate in decisions that guide the current and future strategic direction of the cooperative. This can be as small as changing the shop layout to as large as tackling a difficult-to-recycle waste stream or teaching the community how to combat textile waste.
