Policy Officer

Research Australia is the national peak body for health and medical research and innovation. We are a member-based organisation representing all stages of health and medical research and innovation including universities, medical research institutes, consumer groups, hospitals, health insurers, medical technology, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

We are seeking a Policy Officer to contribute to the Policy and Advocacy Team.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Reporting to the Head of Policy and Advocacy, the Policy Officer is responsible for:

  • Preparing and contributing to the creation of policy papers, evidence briefs, presentations, media releases and other policy communication material as required.
  • Undertaking watching briefs of key government policy priorities.
  • Undertaking literature searches and reviews.
  • Identifying opportunities to use Research Australia’s policy work as a platform for meaningful engagement with our Government Relations Officer. This includes developing briefing materials for government on emerging issues in health and medical research.
  • Developing strong stakeholder relationships with Research Australia membership for input into policy briefs
  • Providing administrative and clerical support to the Policy and Advocacy team
  • Collaborating effectively across the organisation to ensure continuity of work across shared tasks and projects.

This position works closely with the Manager, Advisory Services and Government Relations Officer to ensure alignment between Research Australia’s advisory and consulting projects and policy priorities.

ABOUT YOU

To be successful in this role, you will have completed (or be close to completing) tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as political science, public health, public policy, international relations, communications, or economics.

You will have demonstrated experience in policy writing and undertaking reports for diverse audiences. Experience in the current political and policy landscape in Australia as it relates to health policy is an advantage, including in government, an advocacy body or a similar policy role.

Your highly motivated and action-oriented working style will be combined with exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to independently manage multiple priorities, and work collaboratively as a part of a small team to deliver timely outcomes.

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite is required.
