MAIN ACTIVITIES

  • Maintain the high level of peer education and outreach efforts for sex workers in all locations and all workplaces (private and premises and street based) across NSW.
  • Participate in other outreach as required.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate targeted information, education resources and social marketing campaigns to maintain the current high rates of condom use in the NSW sex industry.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate targeted information, education resources and social marketing campaigns to support the NSW sex industry’s high rates of voluntary STI, HIV and BBVs testing and high levels of engagement with sexual health services for both testing and treatment.
  • Provide appropriate information and/or referrals and support re STI, HIV, BBVs, sexual and other health issues to male sex workers and others who contact SWOP.
  • Undertake a range of community development activities for NSW sex workers.
  • Continually build and enhance partnerships with agencies and external service providers to ensure coordinated responses to male sex workers’ needs.
  • Liaise with and provide training to agencies and groups in contact with sex workers, with a view to coordinating STI, HIV, BBVs, and sexual and other health education and support for sex industry workers.
  • Actively participate in and contribute to an on-going process of supervision, unit meetings, team meetings, general staff meetings, quality improvement and professional development strategies.
  • Collect and maintain appropriate statistics, administrative records and written reports.
  • Maintain a professional standard of behaviour and ensure confidentiality at all times.
  • Perform other duties to assist with the work of the unit as requested by your supervisor (or designate).

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • Lived experience in the sex industry and a good understanding of and commitment to the broad range of sex worker issues and especially issues for the male sex worker community.
  • Basic understanding of and willingness to train in HIV, sexual and other health issues for male sex workers including STIs and BBVs (such as Hepatitis C).
  • Commitment to the partnership approach to HIV prevention working in partnership with other organisations to deliver quality services to the NSW sex industry
  • An ability to analyse and act upon complex situations in an appropriate and effective manner, including the ability to develop programs and campaigns that address those situations and other issues as required.
  • Well-developed organisational and time management skills, experience in the use of Microsoft Office and similar programs.
  • Experience in using social media platforms as both a tool for peer education and community building
  • Demonstrated abilities to work with minimal supervision as well as part of a team and excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • A full current NSW driver’s licence.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated experience of health promotion and the principles of peer education, harm minimisation and community development.
  • Experience in more than one locational form of sex work.
  • An understanding of alcohol and other drug use issues.

Additional Information

This position is part-time (42 hrs per fortnight) and based in Surry Hills, Sydney but with work from home and regional options.

The salary range for this position is $31.75 upward per hour plus superannuation and leave loading.
