The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia

The Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) is the leading organisation representing Pathologists and Senior Scientists in Australasia.

Its mission is to train and support pathologists and to improve the use of pathology testing to achieve better healthcare.

Why this role matters:

The Training and Education Portfolio of the College is responsible for the end-to-end delivery of the training programs of the College. These include eight pathology disciplines and four faculties, with 39 active programs within these disciplines and faculties. The Education Developer is a key team member of the Portfolio, by their involvement in the development and designing of curricula and assessments. Since 2023, the College has been implementing an Online Training Portal, which is utilised to deliver summative assessments.

The College is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced educationalist to join the Training and Education Portfolio. Reporting to the Manager: Education Development, you will be part of a small education team who works closely with senior fellows, the specialist advisory committees and external stakeholders. You will also be involved in developing educational and other professional activities as the College seeks to ensure that trainees and fellows of the College have access to appropriate training and continued professional development to underpin the advancements in their speciality.

We are a small, professional, and committed team based in Surry Hills; collegiality and flexibility are vital, with all staff contributing to major College activities, including the annual scientific meeting and supporting the examination process.

This is an onsite position offered part-time (0.8 FTE).

Who you are:

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience developing and analysing curricula and assessments, ensuring alignment of learning outcomes, teaching/learning strategies and assessment approaches and methods.
  • Practical experience in developing appropriate curriculum and assessment materials, in consultation with content experts.
  • A flexible, professional and adaptable approach to changes in working instructions and project briefs.
  • Demonstrable ability to work independently and as part of a small team, together with strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Hands-on experience with web-based learning and assessment platforms.
  • Excellent project and time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
  • Experience in developing and reviewing materials for educational activities in support of key subject-matter experts.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying superior curriculum mapping skills and knowledge in facilitating periodic curriculum reviews and the development of new programs.
  • Availability to engage in occasional out-of-hours events, such as examinations and other key College activities.
