About headspace

headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation providing early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year olds, along with assistance in promoting young peoples’ wellbeing. This covers core areas including mental health, physical health, work and study support and alcohol and other drug services. Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) is the lead agency for headspace Sale, which is governed by a consortium of local community organisations who provide expertise, support and advice to RAV.

About the role

Reporting to the Centre Manager, you'll join a multidisciplinary team, serving as a first point of contact for young people (aged 12-25) seeking support at the headspace Centre. Your key responsibilities will include engaging with, screening, assessing, referring, and providing brief interventions for young people. You will build positive connections with a diverse range of people, while assessing and responding to their needs. You will also complete complex risk assessments, taking steps to mitigate any identified risks. Additionally, you will actively participate in clinical supervision, presenting and discussing cases with the clinical care team to ensure best outcomes for clients.

This opportunity is located at our headpace Sale centre and is part-time, ongoing, working four (4) days with one evening shift (Tuesdays) per week. 

About you

  • Degree in health, behavioural/social sciences, community services, or a related discipline that provides a sound understanding and knowledge of assessing and working with young people at risk.
  • Experience in screening activities to determine client needs, and to assist clients to access appropriate services.
  • Experience in the youth and/or mental health sector.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) or current full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) (desirable).
