The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) is the leading standards body responsible for the training and education of specialists and GP obstetricians in obstetrics and gynaecology in Australia and New Zealand.

About the role:
RANZCOG recognises the unique place of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Australia, acknowledges their ongoing spiritual and cultural custodianship of their lands and recognises the right for all Australian women to experience optimal health care.
This role focuses on the provision of advice and support to ensure RANZCOG initiatives, training programs and services meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members, trainees and Aboriginal communities, and the establishment of broad engagement with key stakeholders in Aboriginal communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Working with the Director of Women's Health, Research and Policy and relevant committees to support and grow the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander O&G workforce and improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
- Committee co-ordination including agenda preparation, organising face-to-face and/or teleconference meetings, compilation and release of Minutes and follow-up actions.
- Ongoing contribution to advocacy efforts.
- Contribution to the development and implementation of the College Reconciliation Action Plan.
- Support the development of culturally appropriate training for members, trainees and staff.
- Assistance with planning of events including delivery of National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week celebrations.
- Establishment and maintenance of relationships with Aboriginal community leaders, representatives of community groups and relevant organisations.
- Assistance with identification/ preparation of proposals for grants and tenders related to Aboriginal health research.
- Collation and development of resources on the College website.
- Proactively identify and organise mentorship for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander medical students and prevocational trainees who may be considering obstetrics and gynaecology training.
Please note: This position will commence working from home before transitioning to the office when it is deemed safe to do so, following advice issued by the Victorian government. Our office is currently located in East Melbourne and due to relocate to South Melbourne in early-mid 2021.
Key Selection Criteria:
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- Deep and respectful understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues and community needs with regards to Women's Health
- A high level of cultural competency, including:
- demonstrated understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people.
- demonstrated high level ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- demonstrated high level capability and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency.
- An interest in, and commitment to, women's health and improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women. Experience in a health or medical environment would be an advantage.
- Communication skills to mentor and coach colleagues to support the development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural capability.
- Experience in committee co-ordination, agenda preparation and preparation of minutes
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office.
