Your new role

  • Part time (2 days per week) located at Deakin, ACT or Wagga Wagga, NSW

  • Annual Salary between $98,185.54 to $102,491.76 pro rata, plus Superannuation, NFP Salary Packaging, Paid Christmas closure and other generous leave provisions under our Enterprise Agreement.

This position provides elder mediation, case management and community engagement and education under the Senior Relationships Services. Senior Relationship Services strengthen the well-being of older adults experiencing, or likely to experience, abuse through intake, assessment, case management and the provision of counselling and other therapeutic interventions including elder mediation. The community engagement and education aspect of the role provides a key conduit for referrals to the Programs.

Duties:

  • With support from the Senior Clinician, undertake joint therapeutic intake, with the counsellor, assess suitability of clients and their presenting issues for mediation and/or family group conferencing, and develop and implement client-centred case plans where appropriate.
  • Deliver case management and elder mediation as required by Senior Clinician.
  • Work with older adults and their families and support people to prepare them for mediation and/or family conferences.
  • Undertake screening for risk and where appropriate develop safety plans.
  • Facilitate mediation sessions and/or family group conferences where the older person’s rights and wishes are included in decisions.

What you’ll need to succeed

  1. An appropriate tertiary qualification in law, social sciences, social work, psychology or a related discipline.
  2. Strong skills and experience in dispute resolution and client-centred case management, including assessment and mediation interventions.
  3. Registration or eligibility to obtain registration with the National Mediation Accreditation System (NMAS) and having completed or be willing to complete training in elder mediation.
  4. An in-depth understanding of family violence, elder abuse, ageing and ageing related issues.
  5. Experience in delivering community education activities and to engage effectively with diverse community stakeholders, including service providers and community groups who work with older people and their families.
