LawRight increases access to justice for people experiencing complex health and mental health needs through the:

  • Mental Health Law Practice (MHLP) which provides representation, advocacy, and advice on mental health law and eligible matters before the Mental Health Review Tribunal (MHRT); and,
  • Health Advocacy Legal Clinic (HALC) which supports better health outcomes by responding to the legal needs of patients at the Mater Young Adults Health Centre (MYAHC). The HALC is embedded two days per week at MYAHC as a multidisciplinary student clinic through the collaboration of law, social work, and medical students.

Duties include: providing representation and advocacy before the MHRT; delivering supervised casework, advice, and support to vulnerable clients; assisting in the supervision of volunteers and students; development of resources and stakeholder engagement; and, participate in the general activities of LawRight.

This position is 0.8 for 12 months (4 days per week).

Qualifications: one year PAE as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland; strong understanding of intersection of health and legal needs.

Annual salary range from $69,502 pro rata depending on experience, plus 9.5% superannuation, leave loading, and six weeks annual leave pro rata. As LawRight is Public Benevolent Institution, employees are entitled to generous salary packaging arrangements. The Federal Government currently allows PBI employees to salary sacrifice up to $35,000 (grossed up) of their income to personal and entertainment expenses.
