About the QLD Women Rise Project

The Queensland Council of Unions (QCU) is looking to hire two (2) Workplace Engagement Leads to join the team to help improve job opportunities and working conditions for women in the transport and civil construction industries. This job is part of the QLD Women Rise (QWR) Project, which is about making workplaces better and fairer for everyone, including women. It’s funded by the Australian Government and will run until March 2026, with the possibility of an extension.

The project will be undertaken through a combination of tailored research into maritime, transport and construction, the development of tools and resources, and the delivery of education and training to support up to four pilot worksites.

Purpose of the Job

The Workplace Engagement Lead will play an important role in improving workplace conditions for women within the transport and civil construction industries. Working directly with workers, employers and unions, the Workplace Engagement Lead will support the implementation of workplace initiatives relating to flexible work policies, improving workplace amenities and workplace culture.

Main Tasks

Supported by the QWR Project team, you will:

  • Work with selected workplaces to make changes that help women feel safe, supported, and included.
  • Work with employers, unions, and workers to make sure these changes happen.
  • Deliver training developed by the QWR Project team and advice on how to make jobs and workplaces better for women.
  • Help plan and check how well the project is working.

What we are looking for

Someone who:

  • Is interested in being part of a project that will help everyone in the workplace to feel safe, respected and valued.
  • Has experience working with people or pushing for change.
  • Can build strong relationships and influence others.
  • Has a good understanding of the transport or civil construction industry and how things work.
  • Has experience and understands union work and safety rules. Knows about, or can quickly learn about, the issues that affect women in the workplace.
