The office of Senator Nick McKim is seeking applications for a full-time ongoing Office Manager, based in the Senator’s State Office in Hobart, Tasmania. The successful candidate will be expected to commence on or after 10 July 2025.

About the Position

This position is critical to the operation of Senator McKim’s electorate office in Hobart. The Office Manager will handle essential day-to-day tasks, such as managing the Senator’s public inbox, coordinating office operations, and facilitating constituent engagement. This dynamic role provides the opportunity to work closely with Senator McKim’s team, manage volunteers, and support collaboration with other parliamentary offices.

Key Duties of the Position

  • Inbox and Correspondence Management: Oversee the Senator’s public inbox, ensuring professional, timely responses to constituents via email, mail and in person.
  • Diary and Travel Management: Coordinate the Senator’s diary and travel arrangements, ensuring efficient scheduling.
  • Office Operations and Administration: Manage office requisites, WHS matters, and provide general support for office needs.
  • Volunteer Management: Train and manage volunteers, particularly for correspondence and administrative tasks.
  • Constituent Engagement and Advocacy: Support walk-in and email inquiries and provide advocacy for constituents with Government and other agencies, such as Centrelink, immigration and the NDIS, as required.
  • Liaison with Other Offices: Act as the primary contact with other MPs’ offices and Australian Greens office teams nationwide.
  • Event Coordination Support: Assist in organising office events, as required.

The Ideal Applicant Should Possess

  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and independently manage tasks.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Capacity to meet tight deadlines.
  • Experience in office management, particularly in an administrative or public sector environment.
  • Proficiency with IT tools, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
  • Experience in constituent or client engagement is desirable.

Employment Conditions

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:

  • A commencing salary between $74,095 and $86,506​ ​will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills​ 
  • An additional optional allowance of $6,711 may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work 
  • *optional - Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements) 
  • An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable​

 ​​An initial probationary period of three months will apply and may be subject to extension.​  

The successful applicant will be required to comply with the Behaviour Code for Staff employed under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984

​​The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.​
