The Public Education Foundation (PEF) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing life changing scholarships to young people in public education, as well as their teachers and principals. PEF works in collaboration with schools, communities, unions, business and government to help students achieve their full potential, while enhancing the value and reputation of public schools. PEF is undergoing an extended period of growth and we seek a new Chief Executive Officer to succeed our incumbent CEO is who stepping down after six years in the role.

The person we are looking for will be proactive and dynamic, with sound strategic judgement and superior interpersonal skills. They will have experience in a senior position in a government, not-for-profit or other organisation, and will have a passion for public education and making a difference in the lives of young people. Their communication skills will be of the highest order facilitating effective liaison with students, families, educators, organisational partners and donors. Finally, they will be a confident spokesperson who, in the role as a leader in the public education community, will be able to articulate in various forums the value and contributions of public education.

As the Foundation's executive leader, the successful applicant will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors and the staff team to increase PEF’s scholarship base, develop and nurture strategic relationships and actively promote public education.

The person we are seeking for this role:

  • Has a commitment to PEF’s mission and values.
  • Is a confident leader who is equally comfortable dealing with a government minister or a student.
  • Understands the not-for-profit regulatory environment and is able to ensure compliance with all necessary laws.
  • Has experience in multiple aspects of management, ideally gained as chief executive of a not-for-profit but senior commercial or public service roles would be highly regarded.
  • Is experienced in overseeing finance and accounting processes, while maintaining the highest standards of integrity.
  • Can demonstrate excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Has substantial experience in successful stakeholder management including government, donors and media.
  • Is highly organised, motivated and effective in leading a team.
  • Is experienced in working cooperatively and productively with a Board of Directors. 
  • Is passionate about public education, and about helping students in public education to achieve their full potential and can convey that passion to others.

An understanding of or experience in education policy, funding, administration or delivery structures would be an advantage.
