Project Youth

Project Youth, established over 30 years ago, is a non-Government, not for profit organisation based in South Eastern Sydney, providing support and assistance to young people who are homeless or facing disadvantage. 

Project Youth's vision is to create a future where all young people can thrive regardless of the disadvantage they face. To do this Project Youth provides trauma-informed support for young people aged 12-24 who have complex needs, are at risk, come from disadvantaged backgrounds and may not be able to fulfil their potential without additional support. 

Our work is in three main areas

  • Homelessness and Housing: Accommodating young people in crisis and supporting transition into independent living or returning to their family home 
  • Early Intervention: Intervening early to reduce and stop escalation of issues 
  • Education, Employment and Training: Providing pathways to employment and education 

The Role

This role is 38 hours per week, based in Penshurst on a rotating roster including overnight and weekend shifts. This is a 12 month contract, covering a maternity leave position.

The Person

Essential criteria, experience and skills:

  • Experience in youth service delivery particularly in a residential setting
  • Demonstrated skills in support planning with young people, including goal setting and outcomes-based focus
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Proven ability to work autonomously as well as in a small and larger team environment 
  • Ability to work with a diverse range of young people
  • Ability to assist young people to develop skills in preparation for independence; including living skills education and social skills development 
  • Commitment to the principles of equity of access, cultural diversity, client service and accountability
  • Proven ability in taking referrals and conducting trauma informed assessments based on individual needs
  • Proven understanding of and ability to work within a trauma informed practice framework
  • Understanding of WHS requirements
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Competence in the use of computers
  • Evidence of Covid – 19 vaccinations

All Project Youth employees are required to undergo a National Criminal Record Check and a Working with Children Check by the relevant State and Territory Government(s) as a condition of employment.
