ABOUT voice at the table and self advocacy resource unit

Voice at the Table (VATT) is a project that builds the capacity and confidence of people with cognitive disability to participate in important decision making processes, for example, being on boards, working groups and community consultations. Co-design and inclusive practice are the overarching project principles.

VATT is a project of the Self Advocacy Resource Unit (SARU). SARU supports and resources self advocacy groups in Victoria for people with Intellectual Disability, people with Acquired Brain Injury and people with complex communication needs.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The VATT Project Worker position is 3 days per week (22.8 eft) until 30 June 2026. SCHACDS Award Level 5 or 6 depending on experience.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Oversee the successful delivery of training to people with cognitive disability that increases their understanding of rights and confidence to speak up.
  • Lead a small team of trainers who have lived experience of cognitive disability.
  • Using your training skills and experience to support the trainers to build their skills in training facilitation.
  • Link people to post training opportunities that increase their community participation such as being on advisory committees and boards.

ABOUT YOU

You are experienced working with people with Intellectual Disability and Acquired Brain Injury.

And you have a strong understanding of self-advocacy, disability rights, and community inclusion.

You bring proven skills and experience in training. Strong organisational skills are essential, as well as the ability to work independently.

Qualifications in adult education or training is desirable.

A police check, and minimum of 3 COVID vaccinations.
