About the organisation

As the Australian Government’s national cancer control agency, Cancer Australia aims to reduce the impact of all cancers and improve outcomes and experiences for all people affected by cancer.

The Cancer Australia Act 2006 established Cancer Australia to provide leadership and vision, support to consumers and health professionals, and make recommendations to the government about cancer policy and priorities.

Australian Cancer Plan

Achieving equity in health outcomes between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Australians is the most significant ambition for the future of cancer care. The Australian Cancer Plan, developed by Cancer Australia, gives priority to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, strength and sovereignty in a health system that achieves equity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by cancer. Collaboration and engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health organisations, health professionals, researchers and consumers underpins Cancer Australia’s work.

About the role

In the APS 6 Project Manager role within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cancer control section of Cancer Australia, you will work as a key member of the team implementing priority activities of the Australian Cancer Plan to improve equity and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by cancer. These include activities to accelerate the delivery of culturally safe, responsive, and accessible care at mainstream health services and increase Indigenous-led research capacity within Australia.

You will work as part of a dynamic team working through collaboration with Aboriginal and Torres Strait health organisations, health professionals, researchers and communities affected by cancer.

The role also involves contributing to policy development & public reporting activities.

Key Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated cultural capability including a respect for diversity and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  1. Demonstrated experience in project management, including development, delivery, and monitoring of progress.
  2. Strong ability to undertake desk-top research and analysis and understand complex information.
  3. Strong written and oral communication skills, including interpersonal skills, capacity to work with a diversity of clients, including government bodies and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisations.
  4. Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining positive and productive stakeholder relationships both internally and externally.
