About the organisation

The Path to Treaty represents the beginning of a new relationship between First Nations and non-Indigenous Queenslanders. The Independent Interim Body (IIB) will maintain the momentum of the Path to Treaty through truth telling, research, engagement, and co-design of the First Nations Treaty Institute (the Institute) and Truth Telling and Healing Inquiry.

The Independent Interim Body (IIB) are a short-term interim body, to continue the momentum while the Institute and the Inquiry are being established.

The IIB will:

  • design and deliver local truth telling activities about Queensland’s history with support from Queensland’s public institutions including art galleries, museums, libraries, and archives
  • co-design the Institute and the Inquiry with the Queensland Government, including the legislation to establish these structures
  • facilitate research with First Peoples to explore community treaty readiness and priorities.

The IIB will be administratively hosted within the State Library of Queensland. An IIB secretariat has been created to support the IIB to maintain the Path to Treaty momentum. This role will be directed and guided by the IIB.

About the role

Reporting directly to the IIB, the role is responsible for managing and developing a high performing team that is professional and responsive in the delivery of the objectives and priorities determined by the IIB. Providing authoritative and culturally appropriate advice, guiding the development of strategies, plans and procedures, and supporting the delivery of IIB's priorities, outcomes and reporting obligations will ensure fully informed decision making. In accordance with statutory responsibilities, and relevant procedures, you will ensure effective management and monitoring of the IIB budget.

About you

The successful candidate for this role will have:

  • Extensive experience and cultural capability in working effectively with Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islander Peoples leadership and have a record of outstanding success as a leader.
  • In addition to extensive experience in public, private, and not-for-profit sectors, you will have a strong background in strategy and policy implementation, client service, preferably related to Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islander Peoples policy development and service delivery.
  • Ability to deliver outcomes in challenging environments and in a nurturing, a confident and capable team.

Mandatory Requirements

Whilst there are no mandatory qualifications or experience for this role, experience in supporting governance committees and projects and in leading high performing teams in complex political environments is highly desirable.
