About the company

Nova for Women and Children (Nova) is a leading community services organisation that provides interim, transitional and outreach support and crisis accommodation options to women and children across the Newcastle and Lake Macquarie regions who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness or who are escaping family and domestic violence. Nova is the amalgamation of Eva's Project, Lower Hunter Women's Housing and Eastlake's Women's and Children's Refuge and has been operating in Newcastle for approximately 38 years.

About the opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to join Nova’s dedicated team as a Specialist Children and Young Person’s Case Worker, working directly with children and young people aged 0–17 years who are impacted by trauma, domestic violence, and homelessness. Due to the nature of the funding this program is dynamic and evolving, offering you the opportunity to help shape the program’s direction and build something meaningful.

Reporting to the Practice Leader and working collaboratively across the organisation, you will also support initiatives such as training, consultation and coaching to build capacity across the organisation.

In addition you will:

  • Deliver crisis intervention and support to children and young people within a culturally appropriate, trauma-informed, and family-centred framework.
  • Conduct needs assessments and implement evidence-based case plans and interventions.
  • Provide specialist support such as counselling, mental health support, and family-centred group facilitation.
  • Develop strong referral networks and partnerships with local services.
  • Ensure high-quality documentation and compliance with Nova’s policies and relevant legislation.

This is a highly rewarding role suited to a passionate and skilled case worker looking to make a meaningful impact on the lives of vulnerable children and families.

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or a related field.
