What You Will Be Doing
- The Senior Consumer Peer Worker position has been developed specifically for people with a personal experience of mental health challenges or psychological distress and recovery to provide holistic professional support to consumers, and Consumer Peer Workers, within Peninsula Health Mental Health Services (PHMHS).
- The Senior Consumer Peer Worker will be part of the multi-disciplinary team on our Acute Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit (2 West). 2 West is a 29 bed unit based at the Frankston Hospital which supports people experiencing an acute phase of mental illness or mental health challenges until such time that the person can be treated effectively in a community based mental health setting.
- The Senior Consumer Peer Worker will provide both direct 1:1 and group peer support on 2W, ensuring care is consumer centred, recovery oriented and trauma informed.
- The Senior Consumer Peer Worker will also provide Consumer Perspective Supervision to other Consumer Peer Workers in acute areas of the Mental Health Program (eg: PAPU) to ensure best practice and consistency aligned with the PHMHS Lived Experience Workforce framework
What You Need
We anticipate you will have:
- Personal experience of mental health challenges or psychological distress and recovery
- Experience as a lived experience worker in a mental health or alcohol and other drug setting
- Ability to use lived experience expertise to support consumers and the work of the multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships (internally and externally)
