About Us

Celebrating our 50th anniversary in 2025, Pedal Power ACT is Canberra’s leading cycling advocacy and community organisation. With a thriving membership of around 5,200 and a growing public presence, we champion the safe, enjoyable, and convenient use of bikes in the ACT.

Our work spans advocacy, training, and community engagement. We run skills courses for children and adults, host community rides and events, and deliver inclusive programs like the Bike Library, Fitability, and Cycling Without Age. Our advocacy is powered by a dedicated volunteer Advocate Coordinator and a network of local advocates working across the ACT’s five electorates to improve safety, access and infrastructure for riders.

About the Role

The Program Support Officer plays a key enabling role in our team, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of our programs, events, and operations. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role provides logistics, scheduling, communications, and administrative support across Pedal Power’s programs—including cycling skills training, community events, advocacy, and volunteer engagement.

This position also directly supports the volunteer Advocate Coordinator and the district advocacy team operating across Canberra’s five electorates. You'll help coordinate communications, maintain documentation, and ensure these important community-facing volunteers have the backing they need to thrive.

You’ll work closely with the Executive Director, Advocacy Coordinator, and the broader staff team to help deliver on our mission to make Canberra Australia’s most bike-friendly city.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative and logistics support across Pedal Power programs, advocacy activities, and events
  • Assist with coordination and communication for the volunteer advocacy team across the five ACT electorates
  • Maintain accurate records, documents, and databases (e.g. CRM, shared folders, spreadsheets)
  • Draft and distribute program-related communications, including internal updates and basic promotional materials
  • Schedule meetings, coordinate venues, and support materials preparation for events, training sessions, and stakeholder engagements
  • Liaise with members and volunteers in a friendly, professional, and timely manner
  • Provide back-up office and administrative support for the Community Engagement Lead and Office Manager as needed
  • Take on other duties and projects as directed, depending on organisational priorities

Essential Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience in an administrative or program support role, with a strong track record of managing competing priorities and deadlines
  • High-level organisational skills and attention to detail, including accurate record-keeping and task follow-through
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with a wide range of people, including members, volunteers, and stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general digital literacy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team, with a proactive and solutions-focused approach

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience using customer relationship management (CRM) systems
  • Background in not-for-profit, membership-based, or community organisations
  • A positive attitude and a sense of humour—you’ll be working with a good-natured and committed team!

What We Offer

  • Flexible work arrangements: You’ll be based in our city office, with some flexibility in scheduling and TOIL for any after-hours events
  • Additional leave: Office closure over the Christmas–New Year period
  • Supportive culture: A small team with big impact—and a shared commitment to active transport and wellbeing
