The Physical Disability Council of NSW
The Physical Disability Council of NSW (PDCN) is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation and the peak representative organisation for people with physical disability in New South Wales. PDCN assists people with a physical disability to live ordinary lives as contributing members of the community by providing opportunities for individuals to gain the information, knowledge, and skills necessary to manage their own lives.
Our purpose is to build empowered, inclusive communities through information and education; engagement and participation; and by developing individual capacity and resilience.
The DICE Pilot Project
The DICE (Disability Inclusion, Certification & Employment) Pilot Project will ensure that Disability Inclusion Action Plans (DIAPs) in NSW, both in the government and non-government sectors, generate lasting positive change, encourage more People with Disability (PwD) to find meaningful employment in the long term, and increase access to meaningful employment and financial security for PwD.
The DICE Project includes three main elements:
- A high-level disability inclusion evaluation service working with government and non-government organisations to enhance disability inclusion throughout NSW. The DICE framework will enable organisations to use their particular strengths, strategic planning and DIAPs to contribute to authentic disability inclusion in all aspects of their business.
- Disability inclusion training courses for employees, tailored to the needs of each organisation/company.
- Self-advocacy employment workshops for PwD. This will ensure that both employers and employees are empowered to create a truly inclusive work environment.
DICE Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP)
The DICE Lived Experience Advisory Panel (LEAP) will be consulted by PDCN regarding research, design and evaluation relating to the DICE Project. This LEAP will comprise diverse lived experience of people from a wide range of disabilities across NSW to enhance the effectiveness and impact of the DICE Project and aims.
Members of the panel will:
- Represent as a group the wide and diverse range of People with Disability (PwD) across NSW to provide as broad a spectrum of experience, issues and needs as possible.
- Support the work of the DICE Project team in raising the level of authentic disability inclusion across the public and private sectors.
- Enhance specific elements of the DICE Project, including (but not limited to) the Disability Inclusion Training and Employment Self-Advocacy Workshop, through testing, evaluation, and feedback.
- Support PDCN as it works towards achieving the vision of an inclusive society where PwD fulfil their potential as equal citizens and members of the community.
